One of my favorite Holocaust Survivors at the Museum in DC passed away yesterday. Her name was Flora Singer. She and her husband Jack were like grandparents to me, always telling me how happy I would make some man someday, I should date more, I should get married, etc...they gave me pep talks and were always trying to hook me up with young men they knew. They were married for a very long time, and always held hands, and laughed together, hugged and kissed, and were the sweetest people you could ever meet. Flora was a very vibrant woman, full of life, always smiling, happy, hugging people, laughing...that is how I will remember her. She had a horrible stroke a few years ago that left her unable to speak. She never recovered from it. Poor Jack has had to take care of her and watch her decline since then, and it breaks my heart to think of how hard that must have been for him to endure. What a tragic end to such a wonderful woman, it breaks my heart to know I never got to say goodbye.
