These photos are a bit grainy but Radiohead had the coolest vertical light prism things hanging down all around them on the stage, with a huge horizontal screen behind them, and the prisms reflected all sorts of colors that were projected onto them somehow, with shapes that moved to the beat and rhythm of the songs...so some of the songs they performed looked like it was raining all around them, to match the mood of the song...some songs they played were red, and fast tempo...some were blue, and slower, some were orange, etc., so it was neat to see the colors and the different styles they could do with lighting while they performed.
The screens on either side of the stage weren't very helpful to the audience way back in the lawn area---the whole venue is rather awkwardly set up---but the screens had a 4-split image on them so you could see the lead singer's face, at the same time as the guitarist, the drummer, etc., all on one screen, and even that turned colors too. Nice light show, but the lead singer guy couldn't dance worth a crap. He looked like a marionette on a string. I guess it didn't matter much, but they didn't even interact with the audience at all, and Disturbed definitely did. I like it when bands interact and exchange the energy with the audience, there were people at Disturbed being lifted off the ground and passed around on top of people all over the place, but at Radiohead the only thing I saw that was even remotely similar were people tossing glow-string lighted necklaces all over the place.
The Radiohead crowd was huge though, and I mean it was a massively HUGE crowd of people, and they all seemed to know every word to every song too, at least those around us did. It was definitely a different feeling and atmosphere than the Disturbed concert though. Totally different energy and cathartic feeling. I enjoyed Disturbed's raucous wild energy much more because it wasn't as tame, or as conservative. I guess yuppies and 20-something's (the majority of the audience for Radiohead) are just different than partying tattoed headbanging Goth types. To each his own! Both concerts were great though, very enjoyable. I just preferred the wildness of Disturbed, their music changes my mood into "badass." Radiohead, however, did get me into a sexy mood, it's mezmorizing and hypnotic, some of their songs...so I had some naughty fun diddling with Pete on the ride home afterwards! hehehehe
Gotta love concerts. I'm lookin' at the upcoming Journey show, and wondering how they are going to make this Blossom place work. It's a very small stage, the lighting in the roofed area sucks, it's all dark in there from wood all above the stage and around it...the acoustics weren't that great either. I just hope they can somehow work around all that and make it enjoyable. We're still trying to get tickets that won't break the bank. The price of Journey tickets is outrageous though, so we may skip going. I just don't see the need to spend $300 a pop for a ticket, even if Heart and Cheap Trick are with them, that's just crazy. GOD KNOWS I love 'em, but without Steve Perry, I can live without it, because I have seen them so many times when he WAS with the band...and even though Arnel Pineda is pretty damned awesome himself, nothing compares to THE VOICE.
Now, of course if Perry decided to surprise everybody and show up to join in on stage, I'd friggin' sell my car AND my ass on the street corner just to get a ticket for THAT...but the odds of that happening are zip zero zilch. SIGH. Lazy geezer damned VOICE anyway. Just retire why don'tcha, Mr. Perry, just fade into oblivion and leave us poor fans to whine and whimper and mourn...thanks so much ya big fat POOP. A God-given talent, still goin' strong, and he is just wasting it. There oughta be a law. I mean ETTA FRIGGIN' JAMES is in her late 70's and STILL SINGING AND MAKING CD's!! Woose-man VOICE, sitting on his butt in SF somewhere, doing nothing. SAD!! SAD!! SAD!! Listen up Geezer Voice man, get those damned leather buttless chaps on your ass right now, get your sexy bod over here, and let me give you some bj's you'll never forget, maybe THAT will motivate you to open that silly retired stubborn GOB of yours and sing some more for a few more years. Dammit to hell. *squinting my eyeballs at you, wishing you could spank me for being lippy.*
Love, Sassy Girl
