Ok so we're only a few days away from signing the lease on this house, when suddenly Pete's bosses' boss says at a meeting yesterday, "We know some of you have expressed interest in going to San Francisco for 3-6 months to work on this new project; those of you who are still interested, please confirm with your supervisor, so we can start the process and get you there."
So Pete and I talked it over. We would lose the house here in Pittsburgh if we took off for 3-6 months to live in San Francisco. But they haven't given us a lease to sign yet, so we're not locked in to the deal. And yes, that would be a bummer because I really love the house.. But, I can work temp jobs just as easily there as I can here, and frankly Pittsburgh sucks if you ask me, especially for jobs, so I'm ready to get the hell out of here---house or no house.
I told him I'd have to start stalking to find Steve Perry's place while I'm there, and if he didn't mind bailing me out of jail sometimes, I wouldn't mind going to SF. He joked and said, "What if we could rent out his apartment while we're there?" I said, "We couldn't afford it first of all, and secondly I'd be too afraid of breaking something--though I COULD search his underwear drawer to see if he owns a pair of leather buttless chaps!---and furthermore, he's way too rich to sublet to a couple of fat east coast people like us!" Pete said, "If you offered him a BJ every month I'll bet that would be payment enough." LOL Good Lord, that got my head spinning. The man shouldn't tease me like that.
Anyway, so I'm off to DC this weekend and I'm actually looking forward to going to my old favorite places while I'm there. I don't know yet if Peter will have lunch with me, since he hasn't answered my email at this point. (Big surprise). Avoidance seems to be his latest M.O. with me. I guess I could just show up at his office and ask him to his face, if he doesn't answer before then.
Well, here's a rather flattering ego-boost...a former Museum co-worker wrote to me recently on Facebook and I haven't talked to him in a long time. He left the Museum before I did. But he was very good friends with Allen, and so the 3 of us have a very close friendship and hung out a lot together while we worked there. In fact, this guy got me rather tipsy on New Years Eve one year, and unexpectedly, we actually did the deed once! Allen high-fived me, and him, but we never ventured there again after that. He wrote that he was "sorry he only got the one chance, because it was really nice." Well, all those guys out there who never gave me the time of day or only had "one chance" and never bothered to pursue a second one, will just have to PUNT from now on, they had their chance with me and blew it. Too late now. But it was a nice compliment anyway. He's a good guy.
Have a nice weekend everyone. I'm off to the dungeon tonight to get caned into oblivion. Hopefully by the time we get home, Pete's half of the bed won't be soaking wet anymore from last night's dance with the hitachi wand...mmmmmm...
